Communication on immunization during a pandemic

The Minister of Health and the Chief Sanitary Inspector issued a communication on the implementation of vaccinations during the COVID-19 pandemic with a recommendation for the ongoing implementation of vaccinations under the Children’s Immunization Program.

What are the main reasons why you should vaccinate yourself during the COVID-19 pandemic?

The current implementation of preventive vaccinations and the fastest possible completion of overdue vaccinations in children in accordance with the Vaccination Calendar in 2020, during the COVOD-19 pandemic is very important. Other infectious diseases such as whooping cough, measles, invasive pneumococcal disease, rotavirus diarrhea, invasive meningococcal disease, and chickenpox pose a much greater risk to children than COVID-19, which is rare and mild in children.

Vaccinations are safe, also in a pandemic. Doctors and nurses use procedures that minimize the risk of infection with the new coronavirus. Do not be afraid that we will vaccinate someone infected with SARS-CoV-2 and therefore health problems may arise. The immune system’s potential is huge. Even a few vaccines given during the first vaccination visit “take up” only a fraction (about 0.1%) of the capacity of the vaccinated person’s immune system. Many people are asymptomatic carriers of various bacteria and viruses and this does not affect our decisions about vaccination.
